Research Methodology
This page explains how Insurance In Focus researches and produces its coverage, so readers can judge the strength of what we publish.
Sources we rely on
We prioritise primary, authoritative sources: FCA and PRA publications, Financial Ombudsman Service decisions and data, legislation, ABI data, insurer filings and policy documents, and court judgments. Where we use secondary reporting we attribute it.
How we handle data
When we cite figures we state what they measure, the period they cover, and their source. We avoid presenting a single year’s movement as a trend. Where we publish our own datasets we explain the method and any limitations.
Review and accuracy
Technical or specialist claims are reviewed before publication where needed. Draft conclusions are checked against the underlying source. We distinguish established fact from interpretation, and we label analysis and opinion as such.
Updates
Insurance regulation and pricing change frequently. We review evergreen pages on a schedule and update them when the underlying position changes, recording a substantive update date on the page.
